Mini Book Review & A Giveaway

Survival Mom: How to Prepare Your Family for Everyday Disasters and Worst-Case Scenarios
 by Lisa Bedford

I hate to call this a real book review. I haven't read every. single. word. on every page. BUT I have poured over several of the chapters several times. AND I AM IN LOVE. There I said, it. LOVE.

And here's why:

This book is full of practical tips! She gives real life examples of how, why and what to "prepare" for. As a mother her words on having a sense to protect and provide for our children really resonated with me. Getting from feeling lost but having the drive to do something to feeling the sense of peace that comes with being "prepped" is where Survival Mom comes into play. It is an easy read and isn't meant to be read necessarily cover to cover. Pick the topics you're interested in and go back later - perfect for my frazzled day filled with a million to-dos.

Already I have started making a list of things our family needs to purchase along with things we want to purchase. I've worked out a long term food storage plan and how much we need roughly of each of the basics: wheat, rice, oats, beans, milk, honey, sugar, etc. Who knew I needed to think about what type of wheat to store? Did you know all purpose white flour is a mix of hard white wheat and hard red wheat? Blows. My. Mind. Don't want to store up on a bunch of brown sugar? No need. Just mix molasses into white sugar.... yep, never crossed my mind. Her recipe for Super Rice? {a combo of long grain rice, quinoa and millet} AH-MAZING.

You want this book! I know you do :) And if you don't just go read a few pages from it over on Amazon and you'll probably change your mind.

  1. Because we pretty much live off of our food storage, my goal is to become more organized, and have a better idea of what we use the most and how much we need to have saved for a year of this kind of living.
    Thanks for the chance!!
